Guide to olfactory families: floral, woody, oriental, fresh
Discover the four major olfactory families that shape the world of perfumery and find the one that suits you.
The floral family
The most popular in the world, the floral family covers every perfume with flowers at its heart. Rose, jasmine, iris, peony, magnolia — each flower brings a unique dimension. Light florals suit every occasion, while intense florals (tuberose, ylang-ylang) are best kept for the evening.
The woody family
Oak, sandalwood, cedar, vetiver, patchouli and precious oud — woody scents are synonymous with sophistication and depth. Much loved by men but worn by everyone, they excel in autumn and winter and suit professional settings.
The oriental family
Amber, musk, vanilla, benzoin, resins and spices create warm, enveloping fragrances. They evoke travel, sensuality and mystery. Wear them in the evening to leave a lasting impression.
The fresh family
Citrus (bergamot, lemon, mandarin), herbs (mint, lavender, fougère) and marine notes make up the lightest and most accessible family. Perfect for summer, sport and everyday wear. Bear in mind that they last less long — choose an Eau de Parfum to extend the experience.
